Abandoned Rail Tracks Become NYC’s Newest Park
Posted by streetlevelnine on June 9, 2009
Anyone walking along the Hudson River Park in Chelsea last night noticed the strange sight: people walking on the High Line- The High Line, once abandoned freight rail elevated tracks built in the 1930’s had its preview last night. A park over the city, one of the few in the world, like Promenade Plantee in Paris. Views of the Hudson River, the Empire State Building- the city itself below you- a very unique way to see New York.
The gardens are planted mostly with the same kind of wild plants that grew in the tracks after the trains stopped running. Another move towards a greener city.
